SOCIAL BALLROOM DANCES

HOSTED BY ELIZABETH & RON OF E AND R BALLROOM DANCE

These dances are designed to provide you, the student, with a fun, safe, friendly and non-intimidating venue in which to practice, in a social setting, what you are learning in class. Don't wait - the sooner you start, the more comfortable you will feel dancing in public. Tickets will be available at the door, however, please consider purchasing them ahead of time as this speeds up the entry process. This also helps us get an idea as to how many people will be attending, and if we have several people from the same class coming, we can set aside a table for you.

A workshop is held prior to each monthly dance.
LOCATION: Saanich Commonwealth Place, in the gym, 4636 Elk Lake Dr.
TIME: Doors open at 7:00 ----- workshop commences at 7:15 and lasts for approximately 45 minutes, followed by general dancing
TICKETS: workshop only: $5 pp ----- Dance only: $10 pp ----- Discount for both: $13 pp

The gym at Saanich Commonwealth Place is a very spacious venue in which to dance, with a smooth, hardwood floor. The playlist is carefully compiled to emphasise the most popular ballroom, latin and jive/swing dance styles. A few line dances are always included, spaced throughout the evening, and we welcome special requests, such as for a Hustle, Salsa or Argentine Tango.

Soft drinks, juice & water are available at no extra charge. To help the environment, please bring your own re-usable & non-breakable drinks container (although we will have a small supply of plastic cups on hand). You are also welcome to bring your own non-alcoholic beverage and snacks. Also, let us know if you would like to have a table set aside for yourself and a group of friends/classmates. Singles tables are available too for those arriving without partners.

Please note that video-taping of the instructional portions of the evening is not allowed. Still pictures are fine and you may take as many notes as you like. Some couples video-tape themselves dancing the workshop material the very next day while it is still fresh. Others avail themselves of the weekly practice sessions. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

PRACTICE SESSIONS

Two practice sessions are offered during the week.

1) the gym at North Saanich Middle School in Sidney, on Friday evenings, from 7:00 - 8:15

2) the gym at Royal Oak Middle School, on Tuesday evenings, from 7:00 - 8:15

You will get so much more out of your dance lessons, if you are able to find time to practice even just once a week. We hope that you will take advantage of this valuable service. One of our staff is on hand to provide music and help you where possible. A single drop-in costs $5 per person or you can buy a punchcard, good for 10 sessions, for $42.50 (cash only please at the door). Please note that new steps (or those learned elsewhere) will not be covered, but we are happy to assist you with anything that we have taught you in one of our classes, private lessons or workshops.

Again, to get the most our of your dance lessons, it is important to practice between classes. Most of us don't have room in our homes to do this, and therefore we think it is important that we offer these practice sessions for you. In order to continue them, they need to be supported, so please come on out. They are also a great opportunity to socialise and make friends with others in the ballroom dance community.

We also offer a wide variety of 5-week mini-courses which are ideal if you are not able to commit to a full 10-week course, or perhaps you only want to focus on one or two favourite dances, or maybe you would like to explore a new dance not included in the regular classes.

WORKSHOPS

Prior to each of our Saturday night monthly social dances, we offer a workshop, to which all levels are welcome. Pre-registration is not required as the venue is very spacious and we don't need to limit participation. The doors open at 7:00, and the workshop commences at 7:15, and lasts for approximately 45 minutes, followed by general dancing until 10:30. Listed below are the workshops featured each month. For more information about the general dance itself, please click on the "Next Dance" menu.
