Why do we want to learn how to ballroom dance?  So that we can go out to social events where there are opportunities to dance, feel confident on the dance floor, and have fun moving to the music.  But why wait for a once or twice a year special occasion?  Make it a regular part of your life.  Ballroom dancing is good for you socially, emotionally, mentally and physically.  During the fall and winter months we host social ballroom dances on a monthly basis so that you can put those dance lessons to good use.  We encourage you to attend as often as possible, and start as soon as possible to get the most out of your dance lessons and become comfortable dancing in public.  Social ballroom dances are fun, safe, friendly and non-intimidating and an opportunity to meet and make friends with others in the ballroom dance community while keeping your dance skills fresh.  It doesn't matter if you've been dancing for one week or 20 years; all are welcome.  If you would like to have a table set aside for you and group of friends and classmates, just let us know.  There are always two tables set aside for those arriving without regular dance partners so single leaders and followers are very welcome.  Each dance is usually preceded by a workshop focusing on a particular dance style and featuring a small routine or selection of figures suitable for all levels of dancer.  We are open to suggestions and requests so if there is a particular dance style that you'd like to see us feature, simply send us your suggestions or requests by e-mail:  This email address is being protected from spambots. Our next Social Ballroom Dance & workshop will take place on Saturday, June 8th, and will be in our last dance before the summer break so it will be a great opportunity for the ballroom dance community to enjoy a final fun evening of dancing together before people head off on summer vacations.  We hope you can make it and look forward to seeing you there.

The gym at Saanich Commonwealth Place is a very spacious venue in which to dance, with a smooth, hardwood floor.  Tables are arranged in an "L" shape in the corner to create a cozy and friendly atmosphere and encourage mixing and mingling. In another corner there is a practice area, which has been a huge success for many reasons. It's a safe area to work out something that's not going quite as planned on the dance floor, or perhaps review what you just learned in the workshop. It has been a big boost to the confidence of lower level dancers, who now can come to a dance, meet everyone, join in on the fun and feel that they have a safe place to dance.

We take great care with the music that we choose, and many people tell us our music is the best!  The playlist is carefully compiled to emphasise the most popular ballroom, latin and jive/swing dance styles. A few line dances are always included, and our dance cards (optional, but fun!) give you a chance to mix and mingle with other dancers, and we welcome special requests, such as for a Hustle, Salsa or Argentine Tango.

Complimentary beverages and finger foods are provided, although you are welcome to bring your own if preferred.  To help the environment, please bring your own re-usable & non-breakable drinks container (although we will have a small supply of plastic cups on hand).
