PRIVATE LESSONS FOR INDIVIDUALS, COUPLES & SMALL GROUPS

Our Studio is available for private lessons for

  • extra help with the class material
  • to learn a particular dance
  • work on your technique
  • your own small group dance class

The Wedding Reception traditionally includes a solo dance for the Bride and Groom. This aspect of your special day deserves as much attention to detail as the ceremony, bridal dress and banquet, yet is often overlooked and too often the Bride and Groom simply "hug and sway", simply because they do not know what else to do. We do a great deal of wedding dance preparation and would be pleased to assist you.

We would like to invite and encourage you to put those ballroom dance lessons to good use and please join us for one of our hosted social ballroom dances.  They are fun, safe, friendly and non-intimidating and an opportunity to meet and make friends with others in the ballroom dance community while keeping your dance skills fresh.  It doesn't matter if you've been dancing for one week or 20 years; all are welcome.  If you would like to have a table set aside for you and group of friends and classmates, just let us know.  There is always one table set aside for those arriving without regular dance partners so single leaders and followers are very welcome.  The dances at Saanich Commonwealth Place are usually preceded by a workshop focusing on a particular dance style and featuring a small routine or selection of figures suitable for all levels of dancer.  We are open to suggestions and requests so if there is a particular dance style that you'd like to see us feature, simply send us your suggestions or requests by e-mail:  This email address is being protected from spambots. We offer two dances per month, one at Saanich Commonwealth Place in Saanich, usually on the 1st Saturday of each month, and the other at The Hub in Cowichan, usually on the 2nd Saturday of each month.  The dances at Saanich Commonwealth Place are usually preceded by a workshop.  Here is information on our next two ballroom dances:

Vera Lin of Impetus Dance Store usually has a table set up during the dances at Saanich Commonwealth Place with ballroom dance shoes for sale.  She has a nice selection at reasonable prices so if you've been considering the purchase of a pair of ballroom dance shoes, do stop by and have a browse.

Both venues feature smooth hardwood floors and the gym at Saanich Commownealth Place is particularly generous so there is plenty of room.  At Saanich Commonwealth Place, the tables are arranged in an "L" shape in the corner to create a cozy and friendly atmosphere and encourage mixing and mingling. In another corner there is a practice area, which has been a huge success for many reasons. It's a safe area to work out something that's not going quite as planned on the dance floor, or perhaps review what you just learned in the workshop. It has been a big boost to the confidence of lower level dancers, who now can come to a dance, meet everyone, join in on the fun and feel that they have a safe place to dance.

We take great care with the music that we choose, and many people tell us our music is the best!  The playlist is carefully compiled to emphasise the most popular ballroom, latin and jive/swing dance styles. A few line dances are always included, and our dance cards (optional, but fun!) give you a chance to mix and mingle with other dancers, and we welcome special requests, such as for a Hustle, Salsa or Argentine Tango.

Complimentary beverages and finger foods are provided, although you are welcome to bring your own if preferred.  To help the environment, please bring your own re-usable & non-breakable drinks container (although we will have a small supply of plastic cups on hand).

To purchase in advance, please contact us and we can arrange to connect with you in class, at practice, or make other arrangements, including e-transfer.

You will get so much more out of your dance classes if you are able to find a little time to practice in between to keep your dancing skills refresh and help you retain what you are working on in class.  Plus they are a great opportunity to enjoy a social night out with others in the ballroom dance community and spend some time with your friends (or make new ones!).  We offer two practice session nights per week, from 7:00 - 8:30:

1)  Tuesday nights - in the gym at Lochside Elementary School, 1145 Royal Oak Dr.
2)  Friday nights - in the gym at North Saanich Middle School, 10400 McDonald Park Rd.

Both venues are large school gyms so there is lots of space for you to practice with the music that we play, or for you to focus on your own without disturbing anyone else.  A staff member is on hand to provide music and help you where possible with material that you personally have previously encountered in one of our classes or workshops.

In lieu of a membership fee, you pay only for the sessions that you attend. This small charge helps to cover the cost of the hall and staff. A single session costs $6 pp, or you can purchase a punchcard, which is good for ten sessions for $52.50.
