GROUP DANCE CLASS

Group classes are fun, social and economical.
Offered in multiple locations throughout the Greater Victoria and Cowichan Valley areas.

Please click on the 'group classes' link on the left hand side to see our latest schedule.

We offer a wide variety of group dance classes:

Social Ballroom Dance

Social Ballroom Dance classes are well-rounded and include instruction in the most popular and widely-used dance styles.
Level 1 introduces Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Rhumba, Cha Cha & Jive.
In Levels 2 and 3, we progressively build on the previous level with the introduction of new material and the refining of your dance technique.

In levels Pre-Bronze, Bronze and Beyond Bronze, things get even more interesting and challenging as we continue to refine and polish your dancing with the addition of more intricate figures and focus on style and technique.  Samba and Quickstep are added starting at the Pre-Bronze level.

Mini-courses

Mini-courses are shorter in length and focus on just one or two dance styles so these can be a very good alternative depending upon your budget, availability and interests.

Our Studio

We are available for private lessons and can help you in the following situations:

- you require extra help with the material you are learning in group class (perhaps you have missed a class or two)

- you would like to learn a particular dance, work on your technique, or add to your repertoire

- you have a special occasion approaching, such as a wedding, office or Christmas party, cruise, etc., and would like some extra confidence before you step out on the dance floor, perhaps with specialised choreography

- you & a group of friends would like to set up your own small group dance class, tailor-made to your specifications

Please contact us for more information or if you would like to arrange for a private session.

The Wedding Reception traditionally includes a solo dance for the Bride and Groom. This aspect of your special day deserves as much attention to detail as the ceremony, bridal dress and banquet, yet is often overlooked and too often the Bride and Groom simply "hug and sway", simply because they do not know what else to do. We do a great deal of wedding dance preparation and would be pleased to assist you.

We can choreograph a routine for you to your chosen piece of music to make this aspect of your special day as memorable and enjoyable as every other. Your routine does not have to be long and complex in order to be polished and attractive. In addition, ballroom dancing is a wonderful activity for couples to do together, as it has many physical, mental and social benefits. The ballroom dance community provides a venue for many new and lasting friendships to develop. This is an activity that you can enjoy for the rest of your life, as so many of our special events and social occasions include music and opportunities to dance.

Please contact us for more information and to make arrangements for your lessons.

We would like to invite and encourage you to put those ballroom dance lessons to good use and please join us for one of our hosted social ballroom dances.  They are fun, safe, friendly and non-intimidating and an opportunity to meet and make friends with others in the ballroom dance community while keeping your dance skills fresh.  It doesn't matter if you've been dancing for one week or 20 years; all are welcome.  If you would like to have a table set aside for you and group of friends and classmates, just let us know.  There is always one table set aside for those arriving without regular dance partners so single leaders and followers are very welcome.  The dances at Saanich Commonwealth Place are usually preceded by a workshop focusing on a particular dance style and featuring a small routine or selection of figures suitable for all levels of dancer.  We are open to suggestions and requests so if there is a particular dance style that you'd like to see us feature, simply send us your suggestions or requests by e-mail:   This email address is being protected from spambots. Please click on the 'ballroom dances' link on the left hand side for more information on our next social dance.

You will get so much more out of your dance classes if you are able to find a little time to practice in between to keep your dancing skills refresh and help you retain what you are working on in class.  Plus they are a great opportunity to enjoy a social night out with others in the ballroom dance community and spend some time with your friends (or make new ones!).  We offer two practice session nights per week, from 7:00 - 8:30:

1)  Tuesday nights - in the gym at Lochside Elementary School, 1145 Royal Oak Dr. - IMPORTANT - please note these are currently suspended and we hope to restart them in September - but Friday nights are taking place...
2)  Friday nights - in the gym at North Saanich Middle School, 10400 McDonald Park Rd.

Both venues are large school gyms so there is lots of space for you to practice with the music that we play, or for you to focus on your own without disturbing anyone else.  A staff member is on hand to provide music and help you where possible with material that you personally have previously encountered in one of our classes or workshops.

In lieu of a membership fee, you pay only for the sessions that you attend. This small charge helps to cover the cost of the hall and staff. A single session costs $7 pp, or you can purchase a punchcard, which is good for ten sessions for $60.00.

Please click on the 'dance practices' link on the left hand side for more information.
